Here are some of the approaches that our licensed therapists use to provide personalized care in a safe and supportive environment.
Pastoral Counseling is an approach to mental health care that draws its wisdom from psychology and the behavioral sciences alongside spirituality. Studies show that spiritual well-being has a significant impact on key health measures. It reduces despair, anxiety, depression, the wish to die, and improves the quality of life. That is why our spiritual counselors work with clients to provide guidance and support to help you connect with your spiritual resources.
Narrative Therapy embraces the idea that stories actually shape our behaviors and our lives and that we become the stories we tell about ourselves or others tell about us. There are helpful narratives we can choose to embrace as well as unhelpful ones. The power of storytelling is to elevate the client--who is the author of their narrative--rather than the therapist, as expert.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. The therapist assists the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking. The therapist then helps the client modify those thoughts and the behaviors that flow from them. CBT is a structured collaboration between therapist and client and often calls for homework assignments.
The Skilled-Helper Model, also known as the Egan Model, is coined by Gerald Egan in his book: The Skilled Helper: A problem-Management and Opportunity-Development Approach to Helping. The model helps clients to explore what is going on in their life that is causing unhappiness, set goals to achieve what they want, and work towards achieving their preferred picture of living,
The model empowers clients to solve their own problems.
Christian counseling works by recognizing the close connection between a person's emotional or psychological well-being and their faith. It allows clients to bring their whole selves into therapy to develop coping strategies that align with their personal beliefs. Christian counseling draws upon the principles of Christianity to help individuals navigate mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, relationship problems, grief, or anger.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) offers valuable support in identifying and challenging self-defeating thoughts and behaviors, and revealing how unhealthy thoughts hinder personal and professional goal attainment. REBT can be beneficial for addressing anxiety, depression, guilt, problems with self-worth, extreme or inappropriate anger, demands on self, or self-defeating behaviors like aggression, unhealthy eating, and procrastination. REBT can assign homework.
